What's That Elusive Sound?

What's that faint sound
With the whispering wind?
Why does it caress my ears?
Has it a message for me?

What's that scent it brings?
Why does it tease me so?
What does it intend to evoke?
And then, why subtly so?

I've been holding my breath
So not to disturb the breeze,
So the secret may be bared,
And the point be delivered,
Clearly, in time, before I depart
Through the noisy jungles,
To the peaceful shores,
And into the deep and
Quiet stillness beyond.

Inaudible now, though I sense it
Why is it so faint, the sound?
Only a hint of a lore forgotten?
Why not hit me loud and clear?

What's that learning it brings?
Why does it evade me so?
Why does it blow snowflakes?
Why does it not throw rocks?

I've known for quite some time
There plays this silent sound,
With it sways this subtle scent,
But I need to perceive them yet,
To recall, clearly, before I depart
Through the noisy jungles,
To the peaceful shores,
And into the deep and
Quiet stillness beyond.

I must discern this sound!
Why does it elude me so?
I need to draw out its message!
I need to absorb its lesson
Clearly, in time, before I depart
Through the noisy jungles,
To the peaceful shores,
And into the deep and
Quiet stillness beyond!
