The Mask, My Face

All I need now is the quiet center
To rest my tired limbs and nerves;
I've been working myself silly,
Running around the circumference!

I've thrown away most of the waste
I had amassed over the years;
And yet, it is true, there's only so far
One can run from oneself!

There's just nowhere to rush to,
No, not even a reason to leave,
When you see everything change,
And yet, somehow, nothing is different!

I've done all I could to wake myself up
And to jump out of foolish dreams;
But how can I ever assist myself
Rip off the mask that is my face!

Laughable, I know, have my attempts
Been, and in vain, all the exertions;
For, as is the order of a circular path,
The faster I ran, the stiller I stood!

All I need now is the quiet center
To rest my tired limbs and nerves;
I've been working myself silly,
Running around the circumference!
